Louie is doing great - he's fun to play with, exceptionally sweet and smart. He's also adjusting well to living in NYC. Louie gets an hour and fifteen minute walk in Central Park every morning (longer on weekends), an hour walk with our dog walker on weekdays, another 30-60 minutes when I come home and If the weather is good we usually go back to Central Park. There is also ample play time in the apartment. Given he's small and we have a railroad style apartment which is long, we have great indoor ball tosses and tugs. After the morning romp, he usually sleeps till 2, which is the time for his second long walk. He is not deprived of exercise or TLC.
The first week of August we took Louie to Grand Isle, Vermont for a week on Lake Champlain. The first few pics are from that trip. I thought Louie might be depressed when we came back to the city, but his tail wagged as soon as we got out of the car and he was genuinely happy to be home - perhaps he fought we were going to leave him with another family. In fact since the trip, the bond has deepened. He is a real joy to be with and he's a great dog.
There is one issue I'd like to discuss with you. Louie barks at other dogs when he's on the lead. We have worked with a trainer and have read a great book by Patricia McConnel that specifically deals with this issue. The protocol that we are following is working well, but I'd like to have a chat with you about how Louie played with your dogs. Is there an evening that I can call you? If so, email you phone number.
In every other way he is a wonderful dog. We love him dearly and are thrilled that he is with us.
I hope you had a good summer and all is well.
